Adrian Ignagni (Mississauga, Ont./St. Michael’s Buzzers, OJHL) made 20 saves, 12 in the third period alone, as Canada East earned a 3-1 win over Canada West in World Junior A Challenge pre-tournament action on Thursday night (photo courtesy of Hockey Canada Images). Down 3-0 and outshot 20-8 through two periods, Canada West carried the play in the third, outshooting Canada East 13-3. But Ignagni was up to the task, allowing only a goal from Evan Richardson (Nanaimo, B.C./Powell River, BCHL) with 4:12 remaining. Ben Hutton (Prescott, Ont./Kemptville, CCHL), David Friedmann (Toronto, Ont./Toronto Jr. Canadiens, OJHL) and Patrick Megannety (Oakville, Ont./Georgetown Raiders, OJHL) scored the goals for Canada East, which beat Canada West in exhibition action last year en route to an appearance in the gold medal game. Both teams will wrap up their pre-tournament schedules on Saturday – Canada East will travel to North Delta, B.C., to take on the three-time defending champions from the United States (3 p.m. PT), while Canada West will take on Russia in Chilliwack, B.C. (7 p.m. PT).

Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Junior Hockey League, announced Monday the 22 players who will represent Canada East at the 2011 World Junior A Challenge, Nov. 7-13, 2011 in Langley, B.C. The roster was selected by Canada East head coach Curtis Hodgins (Courtice, Ont./Whitby, OJHL), along with assistant coaches Jason Nobili (Bolton, Ont./Toronto, OJHL) and Greg Walters (Toronto, Ont./Georgetown, OJHL), following a three-day selection camp at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville. “All 34 players at camp battled hard, fought for their spots and left us with some tough decisions,” said Hodgins. “As a coaching staff, we are confident we have selected the 22 players who give us the best chance at improving on last year’s silver medal finish.” Players named to the Canada East selection camp roster were selected from the CJHL’s five eastern Junior A leagues: the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL), Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), Central Canada Junior Hockey League (CCHL), Ligue de hockey junior AAA du Québec (LHJAAAQ) and Maritime Hockey League (MHL). Canada East’s roster for the 2011 World Junior A Challenge includes: two goaltenders, seven defencemen and 13 forwards; 17 players from the OJHL and five players from the CCHL; three players returning from the 2010 World Junior A Challenge (Hampton, Tylor Spink, Tyson Spink). Among OJHL players, the Newmarket Hurricanes and St. Michael's Buzzers lead the way with three players each on the squad. The Toronto Jr. A Canadiens are very proud to announce that 1993 born forward David Friedmann has been invited to the final Team Canada East camp taking place on Saturday October 30th to Monday November 1st.

David Friedmann, Forward, Junior A Canadiens has been invited to the evaluation camp, scheduled for September 18-22, will be held at the Sensplex in Kanata, Ont.

Three Junior Canadiens have been selected to OJHL Evaluation Camp, August 20th, in Whitby, Ontario.

Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Junior Hockey League, announced that Toronto Jr. A Canadiens, Head Coach, Jason Nobili has been named to Team Canada East coaching staff for the 2011 World Junior A Challenge, scheduled for November 7-13 in Langley, B.C.

David Friedmann has been invited to the 2011 LA Kings Development Camp to be held next Monday and Tuesday at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.
